I've read / purchased countless books on photography and from an all-round perpective, this is the best, bar none. Even tho' a portion of the book is dedicated to film, that's fine since it reinforces the fact that photography remains a technical art. Its much better than the "instant, how-to" books that regularly top the charts with their promises of instant nirvana via tricks, cheats and the rest. This handbook takes the reader thru the entire gamut of what photogs do, why and how they do it. Its not exhaustive and if you intend to work on a particular genre (e.g. architecture) you'll need to do supplemental research (e.g. latest T&S lenses) but the basic facts are all here. Its a fascinating book that really opened my eyes to photography and
