Being one of the few who was present at the foundation of our 'Association of Mouth and Foot Painting Artists' 50 years ago, it fills me with pride to have been asked to write the foreword of this book that outlines the 50-year history of VDMFK.

My first, most precious and thankful thought goes out to Arnulf Erich Stegmann. On a recommendation, in 1956 he visitied my small office on the first floor above a shoe shop in Vaduz, and inquired about the legal structure of an association of people unable to use their arms and hands for painting. Until that time they had been left to their own devices. Stegmann wanted these people to come together and their works to win international recognition.

After several consultations, we concentrated on establishing an association called 'Association of Mouth and Foot Painting Artists'. This was how it all began. An inaugural meeting was held at the Waldhotel in Vaduz, Liechtenstein, where a number of enthusiastic mouth and foot painting artists
