Antioch (Antakya) is a city which once played such an important role in the Hellenistic and Roman worlds, as well as in the development of Christianity. The author tried to look at Antioch with his tour guide eyes and did not try to revive the ancient splendour of the city. The book, in this sense, lacks a critical and scholarly approach. This volume is mainly concerned with the Antioch of antiquity and its Roman mosaics, and includes towns like Daphne and Seleucia Pieria whose histories are closely linked with that of Antioch. For this reason the reader may not find information on some ancient ruins, such as the Crusaders' castles.
