A young engineer who became one of the true innovators of modern bridge engineering. The 148-page hardback book traces his upbringing, early career and his 50-years of the design and construction of a great series of suspension bridges.
It features over 100 beautiful photographs of Bills bridges (some taken by Bill himself). The major projects of the Severn (opened in 1966), the two bridges over the Bosphorus in Istanbul, that link Europe and Asia, and the proposed 3,300m crossing of the Messina Strait are investigated in more detail.
The author is David Boxall who spent 10 years working for Bills firm, Brown Beech.
