The Library, Art & Publications Committee of the Board of General Purposes of the United Grand Lodges of England has published this small book to tell, clearly and concisely, not only of the early meeting places and halls of the Grand Lodge of England but also of the present building in Great Queen Street and its contents which portray vividly the continuing story of the Craft over the last 250 years. It was in the 1770s that Thomas Sandby was commissioned 'to build a Hall for the use of the Society' and, now for over two hundred years, Great Queen Street has been the centre point not only of English Freemasonry but also of regular and organised world Freemasonry which sprang from English origins.
