The exhibits demonstrate the development of these arts in Russia, which retained their originality and distinct national flavour in spite of 200 years under the Tartar yoke, followed by a period of Byzantine and Western influence.
From the 14th century to the beginning of the 19th the Armoury Chamber was the treasure-house of the Moscow Princes and Russian tsars. It is first mentioned in a manuscript of 1547 in the description
