Hacı Ömer Sabancı purchased the manslon known as "Atlı Köşk" in Emirgan in the 1930s from Prinsess İffet Hanım, granddaughter of the first khedive of Egypt. İsmail Paşa.. Khedive İsmail Paşa had built the mansion on an area known as the Feridun Bey Vineyards, and after the abolition of the khediviate the mansion was inherited by his grand-children. finally becoming the property of İffet Hanım. After Hacı Ömer bought the mansion he placed the statue of a horse which he had purchased from the house of Gazi Muhtar Paşa in Mühürdür in the garden, hence the name Atlı Köşk "Mansion with a Horse). With respect to its architecture, landscaped garden and the art collection which it contains, the mansion has became a landmark in Emirgan.
