Açıklama
There is a misperception in the Turkish and world public opinion that the Turkish presence in Greece is restricted to Western Thrace. However, there is a Turkish population of about 6,000 people who live in the Dodecanese Islands, mainly in Rhodes and Kos. Although they are in very close geographical proximity to Turkey, the Turks living in Rhodes and Kos are faced with the risk of being forgotten in the vast blueness of the Mediterranean. A multitude of problems, such as citizenship, the right to education in Turkish, free practice of religion, protection of cultural heritage inherited from the Ottomans, foundations, and the environment of hatred and oppression, has been pushing them into a process of cultural assimilation.
This book entitled "The Turkish Identity in Rhodes and Kos" consists of papers presented at the International Symposium on the Turkish Identity in Rhodes and Kos, 2014 held in the Ege University Institute of Turkic Studies Conference Hall on October 1st and 2nd
