Commissioned by the music publisher Rozsavolgyi & Co., Bela Bartok and Sandor Reschofsky assembled their Piano Method for beginners, which was first published in 1913. Pianist and musician Reschofsky, a student of Szendy and Koessler, devised the framework and wrote the exercises for Piano Method, while Bartok composed 48 short performance pieces on the basis of the exercises. In a review published in the journal Nyugat (Occident) on 1 November 1913 Antal Molnar enthusiastically welcomed the pieces by Bartok, which include both folk song arrangements and original compositions prefiguring the style of Mikrokosmos.
Die Klavierschule von Bela Bartok und Sandor Reschofsky aus dem Jahr 1913 umfasst circa 12 Ubung- und Spielstucke, erstere von Reschofsky und letztere von Bela Bartok. Darin enthalten sind auch die Stucke aus dem spater erschienen Standardwerk fur angehende Pianisten Die erste Zeit am Klavier. Diese uberarbeitete Ausgabe ist zweisprachig in ungarisch und deutsch geschrieben
